Day 4 - Even More Yosemite (Lake and Meadows)

 Another North American Road Trip

Day 4:

Monday, June 22nd

We broke camp in the morning and drove across Yosemite to see more of the park.

We stopped for a snack and to enjoy the view at a lake along the way.

Then we went in the visitor’s center for this part of the park, and decided on a short hike through a meadow.  We hoped to spot some marmots.  The ranger said we might even see some baby marmots by the bridge!  Game on!

The hike was pretty, with lots of little critters, and wildflowers.  And while we didn’t see any obvious baby marmots, we did see plenty of marmots!  They didn’t stand and scream at us like the ones we see up in the Olympics National Forest.

Near the halfway point of the hike was Soda Springs, where carbonated water comes up out of the ground.

All in all, we enjoyed this little hike.

Next we stopped at Mono Lake Visitor center. It is a salt lake with an interesting ecosystem that Bryan teaches about in his science classes.

Then we drove to the hotel. We were staying in a La Quinta. We decided to freshen up and then walk across to the grocery store to get some real food to fix up for ourselves for dinner. However, the grocery store was closed due to a power outage. So after waiting around a bit to see if the power would come back on, we decided to get Subway sandwiches instead. We ate them, with our own drinks and chips in our hotel room. Then Desmond and I went swimming. The pool was warmer here, and there was a hot tub. We had the pool to ourselves and swam for about an hour.

Then it was hit the hay early so we could get up early the next morning so we could get to the Great Basin dessert before it gets too hot. Good night!
