Day 2 - Yosemite National Park

Another North American Road Trip

Day 2:

Saturday, June 20th

We got up early in order to get on the road and make it through Sacramento before it got traffic-y.

We drove quite a bit.  Then waited in line and gassed up at Costco.  And had some lunch at Church’s for some good fried chicken tenders.  We were looking for a Chic-fillet, but didn’t find one.

After that, we decided it was time to get a treat.  So we stopped by The Grove Mercantile to get some ice cream.

Bryan got himself an ice cream sandwich (a scoop of ice cream held together between two big cookies) made there in front of him, and Desmond and I both found flavors of ice cream to enjoy.  Mine was peach, and made with a coconut milk base.  Delicious!

We made it to the visitor’s center and got some great recommendations from a very laid back park ranger (Desmond said he was”chill” with “yoga vibes”) about what to do and see while we were in the park.

He really wanted to highlight the maps he was giving us.  So we finally let him.

We went and saw the view at Tunnel View.  The pictures don’t really do it justice.  But it did not dissapoint.

Then we decided to do a little hike and went to Bridalveil Fall.  It turned out to be a very short walk, not a hike really at all.  But the waterfall was pretty, and we watched the wind blow it into mist for a while, while Desmond had a blast scrambling around on the rocks.

Bryan and I were not wearing the correct shoes for safely scrambling, so we didn’t go right up to the falls.

We got back to camp and got everything set up.  I heated up taco filling on the Coleman stove and we had tacos for dinner.

Then we took a walk and saw a crowd of people gathering.  We asked one of them what we were going to be looking at, and she said that when the sun set the rock in front of us would be turning orange.  So we stayed and waited with everyone else.

After the last rays left the top of the rock, we walked back to our campsite, with bats swooping above us most of the way.

We plan to get up early and get on the trail before it gets too hot or “people-y” tomorrow.  We will do a grab and go breakfast of bars and muffins.  Looking forward to seeing more waterfalls!  It is beautiful here.
