First At Sea Day - Day 4

 Sunday, June 15, Papa’s Day

We started off our day with a big breakfast in the dining room. Most everyone at our table enjoyed hot chocolate with our meal, which was a delicious treat.

At 9AM, Desmond joined me for Zumba up on the top deck. It was sunny and quite windy but I had a good time dancing around. Desmond stayed for the first 15 minutes to give it a try and then decided to go do something else. Looking around, besides the instructor, I was the only white person participating. But there were a ton of people there!  Way more than on other cruises I’ve done. It was so fun to dance alongside so many Japanese folks.

While we were there the cruise director made the disappointing (but not surprising) announcement that due to stormy conditions we would not be able to do our port tomorrow. This was the location of the one shore excursion we had booked (to a samurai castle) so Bryan quickly got to work rebooking us onto some other shore excursion later in our voyage.

The egg drop contest begins today. So we went and registered our team. We thought we would be giving a kit of materials to use, but instead they encouraged us to find what we could around the ship to use, so that made it into a scavenger hunt which is fun. On the final at sea day, they will be holding the egg drop in the atrium.

Desmond, Dylan, mom and I gave the choir a try. The first “rehearsal” turned out to be like mass karaoke with a room full of people singing along with the words on the screen. The songs were a bit snoozy, so we decided we would not be back next time.

After lunch we all six of us went swimming in the indoor pool.  Because of the significant movement of the ship, it was essentially a wave pool. It was really fun!

After our swim, Bryan got himself a fancy sundae, and Mom, Dad, and I also had some ice cream.

The promenade has been closed due to weather conditions, and Bryan and I are really missing walking around on it.

Tonight is formal night, so Bryan and I put on the replacement “fancy” clothes we purchased in Yokohama and went to get some photos taken.

We had a special dinner that was included in a package we got with credit card points, so that was fun. The two of us ate at a Brazilian Restaurant onboard, and got to sit right at the window with a beautiful view of the water as we ate many tasty meats that they brought to the table.

After that we met back up with the rest of our family for the singing and dancing show in the Princess Theater. When I asked Desmond what he thought of the show he said “I could do that!”  Funny, that’s what I always think when I’m watching those shows too.  (Not that I am nearly as good a dancer as the performers - but I could definitely imagine myself being a performer on a cruise ship and belting it out there, wearing all the fancy costumes.

And that was pretty much the end of our night. It has been a lot of fun to see Dylan and Desmond experiencing cruising for the first time.
