Egg Drop at Sea - Day 10
Saturday, June 21st, 2025
When you travel for weeks at a time, some days are admittedly more mundane than others. Kind of like what I imagine “taking a zero” on a through hike would be.
Today included necessities like laundry, waiting in line for guest services to arrange for all three pairs of us to get off the ship at the same time tomorrow when we disembark, packing up, and various other chores. It also included niceties like sleeping in, the culinary show, and enjoying an Irish pub lunch with live music.
There were so many teams! It really should not have surprised us at this point in the cruise as every activity and event has been well attended. The crew members running the event had hard hats and vests that said Princess Egg Drop Challenge. Many of the contestants near us had participated on previous cruises and had changed their designs based on experience. As we waited to get our egg, we heard the little Japanese crew member begin making announcements, and Bryan and my eyes met in surprise and amusement. Her highly animated, face-paced speech sounded just like a character from anime.
We took our egg, and our contraption, which sort of looked like a lunar module with straw legs, water bottle body, and a pastic bag parachute, up to deck 7 where the eggs would be dropped.
We were one of the first teams to drop an egg. Our egg survived, and due to that, Desmond got an Egg Drop Challenge pin. We didn’t win any other prizes, but we had a lot of fun.
Desmond went swimming afterward, and the pool was full of boys playing games and splashing each other and having fun.
When we had Desmond get out of the pool to get ready for dinner, Bryan and I got some cold drinks and took a walk around the promenade. It was quite pleasant.
Tonight was fun. They celebrated Bryan’s upcoming birthday (which is in a couple days) and then there was the Baked Alaska parade, complete with the adorable anime-voice girl which made us all grin.
After dinner we bade our waitstaff farewell and thanked them for taking such good care of us throughout the cruise. Then Bryan and I took another walk out on the promenade, and he spotted dolphins. We were exclaiming and pointing, but the Japanese word for dolphin does not sound anything like the English word, so the majority of our shipmates continued taking lovely photos of the sunset. As far as I could tell, only one other (English-speaking) guest saw them at that time.
It was a fun way to finish off our cruise, with some extra wildlife spotted. Tomorrow we disembark and make our way to Tokyo. I will need to remember to bring my little shoulder Pascal, as Desmond and I have been moving him around, sticking him to the walls of the stateroom.
Because very soon we will be doing the Disney parks, and I will want him to wear in the new Tangled land!
