Restful At Sea Days

Following all the excitement of our excursion out to the Great Barrier Reef, we were very happy to enjoy a couple of days with nothing planned.

The first was technically a “scenic cruising” day. This means it is an at sea day where they pass by something they think might be worth taking a look at. In this case, Willis Island. It was a blink-and-you-miss-it sort of thing. We went out on the promenade (since it was on the opposite side of the ship from our balcony) and snapped a photo of the little island.

We continued to enjoy dining in the dining room, and hot chocolates in the International Café. One day we played cards again in the Card Room. Another day I had a lot of fun doing a Zumba class. One evening we watched Captain Marvel in our room, and ordered room service. The at sea day was the second formal night and we got all dressed up again, and this time had dinner for two. The kitchen had made me a chocolate dairy free dessert. Yum!

I also spent a lot of time sifting through photos of the past couple days, choosing those to share, and writing the blog entries.  We took naps, enjoyed our balcony, and generally just took it easy.

Ah… cruising. So enjoyable!

  Day 1 This roadtrip was born out of a simple, if somewhat silly, question. “It’s called a bed, can we sleep in it?” This is the question I asked Bryan of his new vehicle. It’s a Santa Cruise. Marketed as a  Sport Adventure Vehicle , this rig is not a car, and not really a truck. Craters of the Moon and Into the Grand Tetons

  Day 2 We got up and around in a timely manner, despite the hour time change. I was proud of Desmond, and the good attitude which he had when I showed him one of the things he needed to do was take the sheets off his bed and put them in the laundry basket in the garage, per the Air BnB check out instructions. After energetically agreeing to do so, and inviting his friend to do the same, I heard him saying to her mom in the other room as he went about the task, “Debbie, I have a question. Which part of the bed is actually the sheets?” Travel is such a great way to broaden one’s vocabulary and learn new things!   We ate an easy breakfast of Costco muffins and bagels. Desmond and Bryan got out the atlas and traced our route from the day before with a highlighter and talked about where we would be going today. Gold Coast

In the morning, we enjoyed a very nice breakfast buffet. All of the food was labeled clearly with allergen information. And we were both able to get an omelet made to order, which was nice. I could have done this on the cruise as well, but I hadn’t, so it was a treat.  After that, we packed up, checked out of the Hilton, and met David in the lobby. David is an Australian that is part of the online gaming community that Bryan helps moderate, and knows Bryan from his Armada blog.  David referred to himself as a “visiting dignitary” on the discord, which is the name given to those who have other Armada blogs that they write. Hearing that Shmitty was in Australia, he had kindly offered to come and play local guide for us, driving us around for the day and then taking us to the airport.  Before we stepped into the lift, as introductions were being made, he gestured to us each in turn. “I’ve read your blog, and I’ve read your blog.” he said.
