Traveling to Brisbane

This morning we woke early again and got ourselves packed up to leave Sydney. We both agree that this bonus stay in Sydney has been value added to our trip, and we would be happy to return sometime and do more exploring.

We went down early for breakfast and sat and waited until they let us in right at 7:30AM. This morning, they offered us a menu to order items from the kitchen (which we had hoped for yesterday but hadn’t been offered). Unfortunately, in the interest of time, we opted to eat a quick bite off the buffet instead. Consoling ourselves with the knowledge that there will be plenty of opportunities for tasty, made to order breakfasts on the cruise, we hastily ate some items from the buffet.

I tried what was labeled as “Gypsy ham” today, and made a face as the taste registered the closest thing I could think of: bologna. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with bologna, if you are a small child eating designs in it around lunch time… but it wasn’t what I was expecting off of the breakfast buffet at a Hilton Curio hotel! Washing it down with a slice of hearty seedy sourdough, lightly toasted, and with some honey, we stood and left.

Gathering our bags and hustling to the subway train station, we made our way to the domestic airport. We were shocked to see the length of the lines for baggage check in. There was no way we would be making it through this monster queue in time for our flight. Ah well. I said a prayer, turned on an audiobook (hello, Harry Potter) and continued to wait as the time ticked by.

Eventually, they called passengers of our flight out of the enormous line and managed to collect our bags so we could proceed through to security. Mentally adjusting our time tables for arriving at the airport for our flight later this trip leaving Brisbane, we gratefully made our way to the gate in time to sit and wait a bit to board. Bryan even had time to get some KitKats for a snack.

He had plenty of time to enjoy his snack, as our plane needed some sort of maintenance and was delayed 40 minutes. Eventually we climbed the stairs by the tail of the plane and took our seats.

Next stop, Brisbane!

  1. Glad to hear that none of your flights have been completely canceled due to the lack of pilots, like I hear is happening in the US
